Quiet palm-lined residential island street in morning light

Island Guide

Schools for island families

The island has one public school, in Holmes Beach. Everything after fifth grade means a bridge crossing to the mainland, a practical detail worth planning around before you choose a street.

Elementary here, then across the bridge.

Families with younger children often prioritise a home on the Holmes Beach side of the island for the shorter school run. Families with teenagers weigh the daily bridge commute instead.

Grades K-5 · On island

Anna Maria Island Elementary School

The island's only public school, serving Anna Maria Island and north Longboat Key. Its location in Holmes Beach means island families avoid a bridge crossing for the elementary years.

Middle School · Mainland

Martha B. King Middle School

The typical next school for Anna Maria Island Elementary graduates, on the mainland in Bradenton.

High School · Mainland

Manatee High School

The usual high school for island-area students, with the county's magnet and IB options also available by application.

School assignment is set by Manatee County Schools and can change year to year. Confirm the current attendance zone for any specific address with the district before relying on it.
